Pet Companion Shelter – Helping Ease the Burden of Those Escaping Abuse

The Sojourner Center is one of the largest and longest running domestic violence shelters in the nation. Their staff are experts when it comes to knowing what an individual or family suffering from domestic violence needs. One of those needs when leaving an abusive situation is to have a safe place to bring their pets.

The center is giving them that opportunity thanks to an on-site Pet Companion Shelter program that was created in partnership with the Lost Our Home Pet Rescue back in 2013.

The program is unique in that only 3 percent of domestic violence shelters around the country provide this service to their residents.
